Before a fire becomes a reality, you need to look at your property with fire resistance in mind. There are three specific elements to consider to create a defensible space.

These are:

1. You’ll want to construct your buildings using fire-resistant materials whenever possible, and be sure that any repairs/renovations also use fire-resistant materials.
2. You’ll want to reduce the size or eliminate any natural or “public” land materials around your home that will fuel flames.
3. Try to landscape using fire resistant plants. While there is no guarantee doing so will make your home entirely safe from a wildfire, working to meet these three points will increase your property’s chance of survival.
