Protecting our Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms requires more than simply attending the occasional gun rights rally. While doing so will always be important, it often isn’t enough.

When buying a gun from a dealer with a Federal Firearms License (FFL), expect to have a background check performed. In some states, such as California, the same can be said when purchasing ammunition.

But how is a background check performed?

As sure as the sky is blue, gun control and mental illness go hand-in-hand.

Now, we’re not saying gun control is an insane concept (which it kind of is, being based entirely on wilful ignorance and fear). But rather, they’re the two issues that come up every time there’s a shooting event.

As gun owners, we find our Second Amendment rights under constant attack.

Sometimes it’s obvious, such as with the so-called Red Flag laws and other proposed gun control methods. However, other times, it’s been going on so long we risk overlooking existing threats.

This leads us to ask, “Are background checks constitutional?”

Whenever a mass shooting occurs, people start getting even pushier with demanding gun control than usual. And perhaps understandably so: it’s an emotional time and people are prone to make emotional (rather than rational) decisions. It was in such a state that red flag laws were introduced and accepted in our country. But perhaps you aren’t entirely sure what Red Flag laws are and what they entail.
